Local Chick Pickup Information

Chesapeake Farm & Hatchery offers local chick pickup for customers who prefer to collect their chicks in person. Our pickup process is designed to prioritize chick safety, flock biosecurity, and a smooth, efficient experience.

Who is eligible for local pickup
Local pickup is available to customers who select Local Pickup at checkout and choose an available hatch date. All chicks must be picked up on the scheduled pickup date. Your chicks will be safely packaged by our team for transport, and no special packaging is required from the customer.

When is local pickup
All local pickups take place on the Wednesday following your selected hatch date. You will receive a confirmation email prior to pickup with the address, time window, and final instructions.

Pickup requirements and timing
Orders must be picked up on the scheduled date. Orders cannot be held or shipped if they are not picked up. Your chicks have been set aside for you in advance. Orders not picked up may be canceled without refund.

Minimum order for local pickup
There is no minimum order requirement for local pickup.

How the pickup process works
PIckup at the Hatchery is not allowed for biosecurity reasons.  We have a convenient off-site location where customers can pick up their chicks.  The address is provided in the order confirmation and reminder emails. When you arrive, have your order name and number ready, and a member of our team will bring your chicks to you, safely packaged for transport.

Do you need to bring anything
No. You do not need to bring boxes or supplies. Your chicks will be properly boxed, ventilated, and ready for immediate transport. We recommend having your vehicle warm and heading directly home after pickup.

Preparing for your chicks at home
Before pickup, your brooder should be fully set up, pre-warmed, stocked with fresh water and chick starter feed, and draft-free. Chicks should be placed into the brooder immediately upon arrival home.

Important reminders
Local pickup takes place only on the Wednesday following your hatch date. Bring your order number, remain in your vehicle, and transport chicks directly home to a prepared brooder.
